LED stair controller for 28 steps with PIR sensors

The RL-STEP-03 is an advanced LED strip controller for staircase lighting, supporting up to 28 steps. It automatically lights each step according to the walking direction using a pair of motion sensors. It offers smooth transitions, adjustable speed, brightness, and fade delay, allowing you to create attractive and safe staircase lighting for both residential and commercial spaces.

Safety Instructions

Connect the device only to a DC 12–24 V power supply. Do not connect directly to 230 V AC mains. Perform installation with the power disconnected and in a dry environment. The unit is not waterproof (IP20). Do not exceed the maximum power of 15 W per output.

Wiring

Connect the power supply (driver) to the controller’s power terminals. Use outputs LED1 to LED28 for individual steps, from bottom to top. Place sensor A at the bottom of the staircase and sensor B at the top – both facing the walking direction. After connecting and powering on, perform the basic setup.

Control Buttons

The controller and remote include buttons: Number, Mode, Speed, Delay, and Brightness.

1. Setting the Number of Steps

Press and hold the Number button to enter setup mode. Then press briefly to select the number of steps (1–28). Each step is indicated by a blue signal LED. To save the setting, press and hold the Number button again.

2. Mode Selection

Use the Mode button to select the desired lighting mode:

Mode 1 – all steps light up simultaneously
Mode 2 – lights up one step at a time
Mode 3 – two steps light up together
Mode 4 – smooth transition per step
Mode 5 – three steps light up simultaneously
Mode 6 – chase effect step by step
Mode 7 – chase effect two steps at a time
Mode 8 – alternating chase effect
Mode 9 – automatic cycling through modes 1–8

3. Speed Adjustment

Press the Speed button briefly to adjust the fade-in and fade-out speed. Each level is indicated by a red LED indicator:

Speed 1 – 150 ms
Speed 2 – 250 ms
Speed 3 – 350 ms
Speed 4 – 450 ms
Speed 5 – 550 ms
Speed 6 – 650 ms
Speed 7 – 750 ms
Speed 8 – 850 ms
Speed 9 – 1000 ms
Speed 10 – 1200 ms

4. Delay Time Adjustment

Use the Delay button to set how long the lights stay on after sensor activation. Each level is indicated by a blue LED indicator:

2 s, 4 s, 6 s, 8 s, 10 s, 15 s, 20 s, 25 s, 30 s, or 60 s.

5. Brightness Adjustment

Use the Brightness button to adjust light intensity. Brightness can be set in ten levels from 10 % to 100 %. Each level is indicated by the number of LEDs – 1 LED = 10 %, 10 LEDs = 100 %.

Troubleshooting

If the lights do not respond, check the power supply and polarity. If the lighting direction is reversed, swap sensors A and B. If some LED strips do not light up, verify the number of steps and the power of each output.

Maintenance and Warranty

The controller requires no regular maintenance. Clean the surface with a dry cloth. Do not expose the device to water or high humidity. The product is covered by a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase. The warranty does not cover damage caused by incorrect wiring or overvoltage.

Important Information

The RL-STEP-03 controller is designed for indoor installation. For proper sensor operation, ensure both sensors cover the full width of the staircase entry and exit. Suitable for 12 V and 24 V LED strips with a total power up to 420 W.
